How is your new guy or lady?

“He’s or she’s great,” she/he said, gushing with happiness. And, she/he stopped right there. She/he didn’t say, “but...” And I knew she/he has settled and found what she/he was searching for.

I personally believe that when a relationship is good (healthy) there are no buts. I’m not saying that healthy relationships are perfect. They aren’t because people have flaws. However I know that when someone is truly making you happy, you are only sharing... good news about that person and your relationship.

The things we say about our partners, partners, parents, friends, colleagues, bosses etc., says a lot about our relationships with them. Words reveal the true issues of the heart! LISTEN to yourself when you are talking to other people about your partner. Listen to the words that come out of your mouth. That says everything about whether or not the relationship is making you happy.

Experienced people can tell if your relationship is going to last or end nowhere by simply what you say.

Retirement or pension fund

Withdrawing from your retirement or pension fund

Don’t pay your debt through your retirement or pension funds.

R10000 withdrawn today from your retirement or pension fund may look insignificant but will affect the compounded interest attached to these forms of savings. For example R10000 with a compounded interest of 10% is a lot of money after 10 years. Therefore even though R10000 looks small today, it is a growth part of it that you will lose.

Also, you will incur unnecessary tax implications due to those early withdrawals and it could negatively affect your investment growth.

Unless you have exhausted all other available options, try to leave your retirement or pension savings alone for the future.

Another tip: When you change jobs, don’t cash your retirement or pension fund from your previous job. Carry it over in totality to the next fund with the new employer. Please don’t eat your investments growths. Although it is tempting to do it, don’t do it!

Having sex is a choice

Having sex is a choice

To have sex takes a choice, thinking about it and planning. No one should blame it on a temptation. Everyone who has had sex before or who is still having sex today has thought about it, decided and planned to do so. We can’t accidentally find ourselves in someone’s arms unknowingly. It doesn’t require a miracle or magic to have sex, but thoughts, feelings and desire followed by actions.

Sometimes young people come to me feeling guilty for their sexual act saying, ‘Pastor, I made a mistake’. Unfortunately I don’t agree with that notion. Still, if I have to agree they have made a mistake, I would classify the mistake as a deliberate mistake.

It is a deliberate mistake because it was deeply thought of; the desire was nurtured and the plan made to act on it. All sexual encounters are pre-planned! That is why if we deliberately make mistakes we will have to bear the consequences.

Why are sex-related sins so embarrassing?

Why are sex-related sins so embarrassing?
All sins are the same and there is no greater or smaller sin. All sins are deadly and bad. But why are sex-related sins so embarrassing? I am asking this question because often when people have committed sexual sins they opt to disappear within the thin air. For instance, two young people would impregnate each other and run away from their local church to fellowship in another church. Some would even stop to fellowship completely.

In born-again Christianity, it seems almost everybody finds it hard to even admit they are struggling in the area of sexuality, even when they truly do struggle with it. I have a reason to believe this intense embarrassment is not of a fleshly nature, but rather the workings of unclean spirits. It is very disturbing that we born-again Christians only talk about these challenges when someone is pregnant or is somehow caught and exposed. Otherwise in any other case we would prefer to hide and pretend as if every one of us doesn’t have sexual struggles.

Sex and sexual activities

Sex was created by God and not the devil. Unfortunately sex has been so misused and perverted in the world to the extent that the impression it has left is that sex is ugly and sinful. Sex is good and godly! Although sex means different things to different people, many will agree that if it is engaged into properly, it becomes a healthy and natural activity. Sex is wonderful and something most people will enjoy and find the true meaning of love from.

We are living in times where all of us have a right of choice. That is why people are involved in sexual activities all the time – as they choose. However, even if we all have the power to choose, we must bear in mind God’s initial intention with sex was that it should be part of the unique relationship of marriage. That is why the Bible speaks about sex so much. The Bible has a lot to say about sex and we cannot escape from what God has said.

The desire to be wealthier when you are wealthy is not greed

The desire to be wealthier when you are wealthy is not greed

Wealthy people possess an interest in the process of wealth creation. Instead of them being content with the wealth they currently have, they keep leaning and try to find new ways to become wealthier. Anyone who doesn’t grasp the importance of being wealthier may try to associate their hunger to accumulate more as greed. Classifying a person who desires to have more when he has enough as being greedy is against the scriptures because Mathew 13:12 says ‘whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them’. When you have, you must desire to have more lest you lose the little you have. Therefore God is pleased when a person desires to have more. Greed is an intense and selfish desire for something. Greed is when someone always wants to have more to satisfy his lusts. Not all wealthy people operate in this level. Many wealthy people I know are the most generous givers and create big corporates that empowers nations.

What you speak you become.

My friend the words we speak always shape the world around us. We are the products of our own words. As you talk, creation is listening to you. Therefore always check your words and make sure they influence all creation positively. People often remember an insult more than a complement. If you can’t say anything good, then don’t say anything at all. The bible say “Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones (Proverbs 16:24).” Good words are healing words (sweet words for that matter) and those that say them become great and successful people. We increase our chance of greater success in life if we plant good seeds. People who speak healing words are always found having a likeable personality. Most people want to be around people who spread happiness with their warm words and kind comments because good words brings healing to the bones but reckless words pierce like swords ( Proverbs 12:18).

Challenges must not be strange to us

No matter who you are, keep in mind that God loves you just the way you are and God loves you enough to leave you the way you are. The one who said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” is faithful. God is watching His promises to fulfil them; to fulfil them not only for you, but also through you. We are God’s holy vessels made to reveal His glorious riches of grace. Some of His glorious riches can only be revealed when the Lord takes us through challenges. Often, in order for this world to come to God, or for someone in the world to know God, someone must be used as a vessel in the hands of God; I think this is precisely why God, in some cases, allows us to be lonely and even to suffer rejection. I think that by our acceptance of the call of Jesus, by default, we also accept being used by God for His glory. And I think challenges are an integral part of that. Therefore, challenges of life should not be a strange thing to us. God has a bigger plan, a better plan for you and me. And yes, God uses the dark times, the times of misery and pain to lead us into a new life - a new life that will bring glory to His glorious name.

A pastor is human too

Psalm 6:2 Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am weak…

Pastors are human too. They are weak and have their own flaws. It’s possible for a pastor to have challenges and maybe struggle with all sorts of sin such as pornography, dishonesty, greed, insecurity, selfishness, depression, anger, etc., But obviously pastor is not going to air his dirty laundry (nor should he, within reason) to the flock. People often fail to grasp these facts and end up idolizing th...e man. I presume people are misled by the fact that pastors are smart, godly, loving, and hold various attractive leadership qualities. All these beautiful factors makes a pastor more respectable and easily cause people to hold the pastor as a perfect man. When you talk to the pastor, even if it is just in passing, he seems so loving. If you divulge your frustrations he listens to you and shows concern. However you should not forget part of the pastor’s job is to love the flock. Loving the flock is a command from the Master Jesus and not always something that comes naturally. Therefore idolizing a man of God is only to disappoint and hurt oneself. You should love your pastor and you should respect him. But you should see him as human too. See your pastor as gifted and called by God for the purpose of giving you what you need most: the Gospel. If you don’t believe that pastors’ are human too, ask his family, especially his wife. The wife of the pastor sees these things in her husband because she knows the man behind the public face.

Who are you?

John 1:22-23 Finally they said, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’”
The people were asking John one of the most important questions in life; a question that each one of us should depart this planet having answered about ourselves. Fortunately John knew that he was the voice. Not knowing yourself will lead to confusion and wasting much time in trying to figure out life events around you. We tend to underestimate the importance of knowing ourselves. Many of us go through each day reacting to events and just getting by rather than making conscious choices based on who we are and what we want. When we don't know where we are headed it's hard to set goals, get motivated and determine the best course of action. Before we can do any of these things we must establish who we are. Have you ever answered without doubt the question of – ‘who are you?’ It is very important to know precisely who you are. Knowing and understanding yourself better, in turn, leads to better decision making, setting and reaching appropriate goals and ultimately living more a productive life. Knowing yourself means respecting your values in life, your beliefs, your personality, your priorities, your moods, your habits, your magnificent body, and your relationships. Knowing yourself means knowing your purpose in life. Purpose carries your destiny and your destiny carries your success story!

How are you spending your youth?

What you do during your youth days has a direct impact to your future. How are you spending your youth years? Are you spending your days being pleasure driven, sleeping in late because of your constant time spend on social networks? Or do you read books, learn a new skill, and make value adding connections?
Our culture sets low expectations for young people. But God wants the best for you – and that involves raising your expectations so you can live how God created you to live. You don’t have to wait until you get older to live to the fullest for God. You can and should start doing so now, while you’re young.
Re-arrange you’re life and begin to live above expectations. The expectation of the world about you is that you should have fun because being young is fun. The only thing that the world won’t tell you is that you will have to account for all those wasted years in the future.
Do the best for yourself by investing in You. May the You of tomorrow be better than the You of today. Change your thinking. Have a different attitude towards life in general- especially to money. Your relationship with money will affect your relationship with others.
Don’t allow to be programmed to do as others do. Don’t copy but crop. Crop all that is not desired. Do only the things that will cause You to step further ahead. Add value to your life and you will cherish the path you have already passed. Don’t give up in life. Life is not for people who can’t see a way when there is no way. Life believes in itself- so must you believe in You. Above all, have faith in God and do as he says.
ARISE AND SHINE!

Your response

“It is well, it is well” said the Shunamite woman 2 Kings 4:8-37. How could she have said “It is well” when it wasn’t?!? Her only son had just died in her arms, yet she spoke not a word about it. “It is well, it is well” were the only words she said as she ran to the prophet Elisha.

Life is likely to throw the negatives on us. For example: - You can break up with the one your partner. You can lose the loved one. You can lose your job. Your marriage can be in shambles or what if you fail and continue to fail. Life can put you at a losing side without your choice. All this heart breaking moments can happen to anyone; to some people only once yet to others repeatedly.

When I was busy preaching last Sunday, the thieves broke inside my house and began to loot my assets. I laughed. Why did I laugh! I don’t care. Why I don’t care? I couldn’t control the situation that happened to me at that time. Yes I lost my goods, so what? I have learned to never worry if I cannot change what happened.

Your response counts. The Shunamite woman, after losing her son, responded “It is well”.  Was it well? No! But she realised if I can’t change it then why worry! David did the same after he was told his son is now dead. He washed and put new clothes, ate and went to the temple. Why? He realised, if you can’t change it why fast against it! Job lost everything and responded ‘Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him…’.Job realised that he can’t just lose hope in the Lord. He couldn’t because he knew that “Christ is no security against storms, but He is perfect security in the storm”.

Your trouble has a purpose. One of the purposes is to bring you closer to God and your neighbours. It draws people together. Remember when the Tsunami hit. Neighbours who had never even talked with each other became friends. They shared food and ate together. They loaned each other tools. They helped each other cut down trees and repair their roofs. When there was no electricity for several weeks and traffic lights didn’t work, people were courteous and polite when they drove. The whole community rallied together to survive.

That is why sometimes we just have to say ‘it is well’! If you can’t change it don’t worry about it! God is in control.
